I’ve stated several times in the past that music is everything to me.My favorite band (ever since I really started to realize how powerful music is) is Linkin Park. I think I was around 12 years old which also happens to be the time that my life took a turn for the worst. Their music helped me learn how to cope with and process some of the emotions I had and things I went through. It was my therapy. I was able to express things that I never thought possible through their music and I have been forever grateful. I’m sure most of us have a band like that.
As some of you may know they just released their new single. Half of their fans are pleased with the new sound and others are pretty disappointed. I have to be honest, I’m not really thrilled with it either. I really love the idea of that song. I love the meaning behind it and the words and even the music. I just don’t really like it together. I know I’m not a musician and I’m completely positive that they know way more about making music than I do. I don’t think playing a saxophone really makes me an expert haha.
I’m not mad that they are taking more of a pop approach which seems to be most people’s complaint. I admire their willingness to venture out and try new things especially when this album is (their words) to express some of the emotions they felt through their own personal experiences with life and relationships. I love that they are following their gut because that makes them true and honest not just to themselves but to the people who really look up to them. With that being said, as I listen to this song I can’t help but to notice something seems off about it. I can’t really put my finger on what it is though. However, this is just their single. This song isn’t their entire album. There’s also the fact that being a die hard fan of something means not leaving them just because we might not like one thing. I’m sure the album is going to be great even if it is different. Either way, I’m sticking with them and I’ll support them because they supported me (they will probably never know that but oh well).
Here’s the song called Heavy. Let me know what you guys think!
Just in case you’ve never really heard them before here’s an older song that you can compare it to.
One of my other favorite bands just released a new single as well. I stumbled upon them about 7 maybe 8 years ago. I like this band more for their uniqueness. Their last album was a bit of a let down for me but they seem to be picking things up and getting back on the right track. I couldn’t be more thrilled. Tokio Hotel isn’t as known as Linkin Park is. They haven’t been around as long either. But since I’m sharing music today I wanted to share their new song called Something new. Enjoy!

I completely agree with your feelings on Heavy, I also felt like there was something off. That Tokio Hotel song is great though! Have you heard their song The World Behind My Wall?

I really hope the rest of Linkin Park’s album is better. Yes, that one and scream are what drew me to Tokio Hotel! Their last album wasn’t that good to me but I really like the new one so far.

First off, i want to thank you for writing this great post. You’ve been pretty much the only Linkin Park fan to discuss their new sound without flipping out and ranting. I’m a huge fan of hard rock and heavy metal, so when I heard that Linkin Park (a band I love) was coming out with a pop album I was blown away. But honestly now that I’ve heard “Heavy”, I think it’s a good song, but I think it’s just underproduced. It could use some better instrumentation. But I do really like “Battle Symphony” and ESPECIALLY “Good Goodbye”. Just curious, what are your thoughts on those two songs?

Thank you! I’m trying to not be like everyone else and jump the gun lol. I’ve listened to Heavy a decent bit now and I like the meaning behind it enough to ignore the parts I don’t like. Battle Symphony was a little too easy for me. I think it would have been better with the old Linkin Park style. I liked the start of it a lot but it started to fall apart in the middle. Good Goodbye was better until it said “Goodbye to my old hoes.” I’ve always loved that Linkin park can express so many different things without using words such as those in their songs. I was a bit disappointed with that. It’s a huge change for them and I am trying to like it because I love the band. I just feel like even though each of these songs have such great meaning and emotion behind them they are all lacking something. To be honest, I’d feel the same way if it were anyone else singing them. It’s not just because it’s Linkin Park and they aren’t “supposed to sound this way.”

I can completely understand what you’re saying. I mean, I write music and I use words that may offend people every so often, sometimes it’s the only way to express emotion. But Linkin Park definitely could’ve used different terminology.
I’ve actually enjoyed talking with you, thanks for responding, nobody does that in WordPress anymore (sigh). If you like music drop by my blog (just click on my username) and tell me what you think. I even welcome criticism. Hope to hear from you in the near future!

I don’t mind offensive language. I just really dislike music that downgrades women or men even. I’m not talking about the mushy, angry breakup songs either. But I don’t feel the need to hear about someone cheating on their gf/bf 10 times and bragging about it or how women are hoes and only good for one thing. That’s everything I stand against. In my opinion, that’s not even music.
You’re blog is great. Look forward to reading more.
